DIBELS! DIBELS! DIBELS!

It was nice to read the other blogs and be reminded about "Keeping the End in Sight" and about "Carrying Your Own Weather" especially after I have been reading and reading and reading with my students helping them to better prepare for their big finish on DIBELS this coming May 9th. It can be nerve racking, but we have been preparing the entire year. They will do well. This "end" too will pass. I am enjoying the meetings with all of you and hate to see our end to come. The workshop has given me a new "vision" on things and strengthened some of the vision I already had before. I hope all of you have a lovely week of weather, and I plan on seeing you on Thursday! God bless!!!!

Meeting Three

Dear 7 Habits Team,

I hope your week has gone well; it's amazing how fast these Thursdays roll around. Please remember that we will meet in the Boardroom this week. Try to finish up Habit 2 and have a good draft of your personal mission statement completed. We will launch on into Habits 3 and 4. See you soon. Keep blogging.

Weather

Thanks Beverly for reminding me about "my own weather." It is so easy to forget that when DIBELS is 14 days away, inventory folks are in my room, addition with regrouping is a pain and my kids didn't get the Ident- a- kid package sent home because "their teacher forgot!" Throw in a teenager, a 6 year-old, a 2 year-old and a husband on active duty and you've got the makings of a storm instead of sunshine. I will CHOOSE to find my sun today!!!
I really like this blog. It is a support group at the click of a button!

New way to look at the ending

I really enjoyed the last 2 sessions of the Habits training. It has really given me some great things to think about. These sessions can relate to you at home or school in our case. Deciding on my own weather has given me a new reason to try to stay positive all during the day. Some of our babies at school are not here by their choice and my weather may provide their weather and I want it to be positive.
I have been talking to the teachers in the reading coach position today about the urgency that we must express to our students about DIBELS and that it is here. We must let out kids know where we need for them to be and how much farther they must go to reach that. I like to know and have a plan--let them have an idea too instead of going into their reading blindly.

Looking forward to Thrusday--still working on my own mission statement, but my weather is looking good.

Begin with the end

It occured to me this morning at my reading group table that the idea of knowing the "end goal" of something could apply to the DIBELS world. I showed my readers where in the passage they would reach the 100 mark and had them visualize themselves getting to that mark. It worked. They were able to see the "end goal" and make it. I guess it was my "ah ha" momment for the day.

Week 2 "Begin with the End in Mind"

Thanks for another great day, and thank you for being patient and understanding about our moving around and facilities. I hope you find time this week to work on your Personal Mission Statement and really think about living by design. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy, but every small step that we take helps us become better, more effective people. Have a great week!

Amazing Bloggers!

You guys have outstripped last year's group with the blog kickoff! Way to go!
